League Rules

Uttoxeter Road Runners

Rules of the Championship

Revised January 2026

The Uttoxeter Road Runners Championship is designed to promote friendly competition with the Club and encourage participation in local events, which also includes the Burton and District Summer League (BDSL) races.

The Championship consists of Road and Off-Road races that include a range of distances and terrains.   They will include evening and Saturday race days as well as those run on Sundays.

2026 sees the introduction of the North Staffs Cross Country League into our Championship.

The Championship year runs from January to December, and the fixture list will be published on SPOND.

If a member wishes to include a new run to the fixture list, then suggestions should be forwarded to the Committee for consideration in future years.

Points and Scores

Points are awarded after the publication of each set of results.  First runner home for the Club gets 20 points, reducing to 19, 18 etc for successive runners.   Points are calculated separately for men and women.

The Uttoxeter Festival of Running Races are not included in our Championship results, even though the results for the Half Marathon are included on the BDSL League.  This is because we want to encourage our members to marshal/volunteer at our own event, so they will get a point towards the BDSL League for marshalling/volunteering.  Should a member wish to run our event, then they MUST find someone to marshal on their behalf.

Road and Off-Road Races

To qualify for an award, a minimum of 7 races per category must be run. Ie 7 Road Races OR 7 Off Road Races.

The best 7 race results are selected and those points added to determine the final score.

The Winner will be determined by the highest number of points.  In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the highest points achieved throughout the races.

For Example:

Runner A has 7 best race scores of 20, 19, 15, 18, 15, 17, 16 Total Score 120

Runner B has 7 best race scores of 19, 14, 14, 19, 20, 14, 20 Total Score 120

The winner would be Runner B as they have more races with the higher points.

Cross Country Races

To qualify for an award, a minimum of 3 races must be run.  Points will be allocated as per the Road and Off Road Races.

Club Rules

Runners must enter the races under UTTOXETER ROAD RUNNERS and must check their race entry to ensure that the Club name is shown against their name to qualify for points, as the league results will be taken directly off the official race results.

Runners must wear their Uttoxeter Road Runners CLUB TOP when participating in a race.  Failure to do this means that points will not be counted in the Championship table.  The Cheddleton Christmas Pudding 10K is an exception to this as Christmas Fancy Dress is encouraged.

Runners must confirm their attendance to the race on SPOND.  This assists with Team Photo meetings and mutual support.

Championship and Trophies

Members can win in two categories: Overall Winner and Veteran Winner.

  1. Road Championship – The man and woman with the highest total score for 7 races will be awarded the championship trophy. Those that are overall winners are excluded from the age category selection.
  2. Off-Road Championship – As per the Road Championship.
  3. Cross Country Championship – The man and woman with the highest total score for 3 races will be awarded the championship trophy. Those that are overall winners are excluded from the age category selection.
